The Bayern Regional Competence Network introduced the beUnity platform in October 2021 to better structure and simplify the exchange among its members. Today, the vast majority of communication takes place via the digital hub — over 95 percent, as representative Axel Egermann reports.
Currently, around 80 organizations are part of the Bayern Regional Competence Network, all operating regional management, local action groups (LAGs), or Integrated Rural Development (ILE) initiatives in Bavaria. Each member pursues the same goal: to make their regions more sustainable and participatory. Founded in 2005, the network serves as a key voice for regional development organizations in Bavaria.
“We want to provide a shared information and communication platform while also bringing rural issues into the public eye,” explains Egermann. To that end, the network hosts regular in-person meetings as well as topic-based expert group workshops.

However, as the network grew — from 20–25 members to around 145 — communication reached its limits. Information was sent to everyone, even when it only concerned a few. “We’d send emails to 145 people, even though two-thirds weren’t interested. With beUnity, we can solve that problem,” Egermann says.
Structured exchange through digital networking
The introduction of beUnity has fundamentally changed how the network communicates. Instead of cluttered email threads, members now use topic-specific groups, individual chats, or broad discussion forums. “On one platform, I can have one-on-one conversations, temporarily bring several groups together on a topic, or send a message to everyone,” explains Egermann.
This hasn’t just improved clarity — it’s also strengthened interaction within the network: “Overall, exchange has increased significantly. Over 95% of our communication now happens on beUnity.” Even members who prefer not to actively use the platform can stay connected through the integrated email function.

What makes the platform unique? For Egermann, it’s a combination of factors — above all, the platform’s simplicity and its mobile accessibility via app. “A project management tool would be far too complex for our needs — and other solutions, apart from unpopular WhatsApp chats, don’t offer a proper app experience,” he says.
Key features that make the difference
Members particularly value beUnity’s organizational and collaboration tools. In addition to topic-specific groups, the platform offers features such as scheduling polls, event sign-ups, and private messaging. “Once you get familiar with it, the platform is very intuitive and easy to navigate,” Egermann summarizes.
Today, beUnity has become far more than just a tool for the Bayern Regional Competence Network: it’s the central digital meeting place where collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing happen — seamlessly and efficiently.
Regional networks thrive on exchange, dialogue, and connection. A central member platform that bundles communication, knowledge, and processes provides the perfect digital complement to in-person collaboration.
