The Allianz Gleichwürdig Katholisch (AGK) is committed to strengthening, networking, and making visible existing reform Catholic projects, turning strong individual actors into a community. In an interview, CEO Mentari Baumann explains why the beUnity platform is ideal for connecting their members and what benefits digital collaboration brings.
The AGK is a reform Catholic organization in Switzerland. It works to overcome clericalism and all forms of discrimination within the Catholic Church. At its heart is the project community, which includes around 40 organizations, parishes, and networks, as well as roughly 70 individuals committed to driving change within the Church.
In the interview with beUnity, CEO Mentari Baumann discusses the organization’s goals and activities and gives insight into their work – which now increasingly relies on the beUnity digital hub. As she explains: “beUnity is both a platform for exchange and a work tool at the same time.”

Ms. Baumann, what is the goal of AGK?
For decades, individuals and organizations have been advocating for a credible Church. Some focus very specifically on certain issues (e.g., ordaining women), others take a broader approach. Some work voluntarily, others as part of their professional role. Activities vary widely: some organize protests, some implement a new type of parish life, and others participate in church committees to promote credibility.
We connect these different approaches and initiatives to learn from one another, provide mutual support, and share resources and content. This transforms strong individual actors into a true community.

What challenges do you face in achieving your vision?
The organizations and people within the project community are spread across Switzerland. Some work voluntarily alongside a job, others are employed in parishes, typically working on weekends, and still others work in hospital chaplaincy at various times. Time is therefore a very limited resource. Yet the need for networking and synergy is high. A digital platform like beUnity is therefore ideal.
What convinced you that beUnity could solve your problem?
We chose beUnity because it allows for informal chat conversations as well as focused discussions in group rooms. It also provides a space for different working and project groups to collaborate effectively. In other words, beUnity is both a platform for exchange and a tool for productive work.
How has the community platform simplified your work?
For example, there is a group for queer Catholics. Some members are not yet out in their personal environments, as coming out still poses a risk in certain church professions. On beUnity, we could create a closed group for safe and easy exchange.
Recently, the Vatican published a working paper and asked bishops’ conferences worldwide for feedback. We are preparing a response, but the deadline is tight. Using beUnity, we were able to quickly gather interested participants, schedule a meeting, and coordinate editorial work – all in one place, which makes the process much more efficient.
The Allianz Gleichwürdig Katholisch has taken the step to move its community communications to a modern, digital platform with beUnity. You can learn how to implement beUnity in your organization or schedule a free demo [here].
